Trails of Water

Young female protagonist (Samantha, approx. Age 14) commits suicide by jumping into a river after being chased by a detective trying to help her. This is due to her and her mother once living happily together until two men were sent by her father to kill her mother. They leave the daughter alive and the police show up. Custody of the daughter is given to the father as he wanted. A detective (John Cartwright?, approx. Age 28-34) is sent to question the girl and father and investigate the murder.

The father is into some dodgy activities (e.g. drugs). The daughter knows her father killed mother and is dealing with drugs. Daughter runs away and leaves clues for the detective to follow. Father sends the 2 murderers after the girl before she gives away too much information. One murderer runs into the detective and is killed in a small fight. The detective finds clues left by the girl leading to father being guilty.

Detective chases girl along riverside. Girl commits suicide by jumping into the river. She leaves behind enough evidence to prove the father guilty.
